Tea Light Jars

I got this idea from a friend of mine who has made a large number of these as lighting for her summer wedding. I washed out some old jars I had (I like the small Doritos salsa dip jars as I think they look cute) and then wrapped some twine around the jar. I have attached hearts & flower shapes to the jars that I have made from salt dough (recipe below). I then filled with coffee beans (you could fill with whatever you fancy pebbles, sand etc) and a lovely scented candle (velvet amber) that I got from Sainsbury’s. The coffee beans warm up when the candle is lit and combined they give off a lovely scent

Salt Dough Recipe

it doesn’t really matter too much about precise weights as long as you stick to the principle of one, half, half e.g.

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

1/2 cup cold water

mix all ingredients into a bowl and kneed until dough is soft and pliable

roll out onto a floured surface to approx. 1/8″ thick

cut into shapes

using a straw make holes to be able to thread them onto your twine

you can now leave to dry for 48 hours or bake in the oven on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper for 2 hours at 220 f

let your shapes cool completely before painting them

I like to give mine a coat of pva glue once dried to stop them from cracking
